Why?

You need a running Linux system to go to IPv6

Version:

e.g. Red Hat Enterprise Linux / CentOS or Fedora or any other active maintained Linux distribution, don't forget to apply all available updates to close all known local and remote security holes!
I'll prefer at the moment Fedora 15

IPv6 ready kernel

Newest Linux distributions mostly contain already IPv6-enabled kernels. Try first "modprobe ipv6" before thinking about compiling a new kernel.
